COMMUNITIES IN BLOOM Chairperson: Joanne Jansen Website: www.communitiesinbloom.ca KINISTINO CURLING CLUB The Kinistino Curling Club is affiliated with the Canadian Curling Association. The rink has three sheets of artificial ice and is part of the Sports Complex. It is situated close to the Kinistino School and is easily accessed for student curling. There are also afternoon and evening draws. The club has also brought in a certified curling instructor with the hope of encouraging curling in our community. The club has tried to keep the fees at a rate that are affordable. The goal of the Kinistino Curling Club is to offer an enjoyable atmosphere so that curling will a be part of Kinistino and neighbouring communities’ future for many years. KINISTINO FIGURE SKATING CLUB The Kinistino Figure Skating Club is a community based organization which provides skating instruction for participants at various levels. The CanSkate program offers basic skating skills for the beginner. Whereas CanPowerSkate focuses on enhancing the skaters speed, power, and control, and is beneficial to both hockey players and figure skaters. The STARSkate program is tailored for the competitive figure skater, teaching skills and jumps at an advanced level.
The Kinistino Figure Skating Club is a registered member of Skate Canada, and contracts the professional services of a qualified coach. The skating season usually runs for approximately five months of the calendar year. Each season registered members are encouraged to participate in competitions at a Regional, Sectional, District, and Provincial level. These competitions qualify skaters for the Sask First Team, a provincial team which tours the province showcasing the talents of the provinces top skaters. Not only has the Kinistino Figure Skating Club tasted the success of skaters achieving this status, but it has also had skaters qualify as National Level competitors. At the end of each skating season, the club presents a carnival to display the amazing abilities of each skater, an event one should not miss.

KINISTINO GIRL GUIDE ASSOCIATION The Kinistino Girl Guides is a member of the Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada. Guiding is active in Canada with over 200,000 members, in fact Guiding is active in most parts of the world, in over 144 countries representing more than 10 million women and girls. We help girls and young women develop practical and life skills as well as self-confidence, values and respect for themselves and others-and we do it with friendship, challenge, adventure and fun! Our organization was formed in 1980 and a new building was erected for use in crafts and physical activities, etc.
The centre provides room for carpet bowling, pool, cards, games, crafts and other entertainment. Our club is for anyone - in town or district, 50 years and over. Fees are $10.00 per year. Donations are accepted anytime. Many beautiful quilts have been made and either sold or raffled. We have carpet bowling twice a week and take part in tournaments with neighbouring clubs twice a year. We also have physical exercises, line dancing, card and game socials. We hold teas and bake sales, soup and sandwich meals to raise funds. We host the Wellness Health Clinic once a month and the Flu Clinic once a year. KINISTINO KINSMEN CLUB Box 806 Kinistino SK S0J 1H0 President: Dennis Locke 864-3790 ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION  Located at 506 Main Street, the Legion has club rooms, a public hall rental and is equipped with kitchen facilities. The hall is generally used for funerals, family reunions and trade shows. The hall may be booked by calling the Co-op Grocery store at 864-2400. On December 2, 1948, the Kinistino Legion Brach #129 started meetings in a new legion hall. Dedication was held on May 24, 1949. The purposes and objectives of the Legion are many; with the principles being: A solemn remembrance of Canadians who gave their lives so that our nation might be free; Loyalty to the sovereign of Canada; Safeguard the rights and interest of the disabled, the widows or widowers and dependants and all who served; Maintaining in and for Canada the rule of law - encouraging the national and united spirit - ordered government - and striving for peace, goodwill and friendship between Canadians and among all nations; Advocating the maintenance in and by Canada of adequate defences; Retaining the spirit of comradeship forged in wartime and nurtured in peacetime to the benefit of the history and unity of the nation. With money we raise from bingos and fund raisers, the Legion has been able to be quite generous to needy organizations. The main participants are the Kinistino Rink Complex, the Kinistino Hospital and Jubilee Lodge, Library, Cadets, Scouts, Guides, Kinistino School Bands and many other worthwhile charities. During the 10 year period from 1991 to 2000 our Kinistino Legion has donated $98,120.25. The Local Legion is also supportive to the community with “Meals on Wheels”, and Annual Christmas suppers for the Seniors. The Legion also supports the Kinistino Summerfest Days with a Pancake Breakfast and Parade Float. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
